Marco Merlo is an Associate Professor in Electrical Systems for Energy at the Department of Energy in Politecnico di Milano.

He obtained, in the same university, his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2003. He has the chair of various Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses in Politecnico di Milano and also serves as the director of the Second-level Master’s program in Smart Grid. He specializes in distributed generation and the new paradigms of smart grids, with a particular focus on electrification in Emerging Countries.

He has extensive research and consulting experience in projects related to the integration of distributed generation, especially electrochemical energy storage systems, and distributed self-consumption configurations.
