Roberto Viola è il Direttore Generale per le politiche digitali della Commissione europea (DG Connect). Prima della Commissione europea è stato Segretario Generale dell’AGCOM.

Dal 1986 al 1999 ha lavorato all’Agenzia Spaziale Europa (ESA) dove ha ricoperto differenti incarichi fra cui responsabile del settore sistemi di telecomunicazioni.

Ha pubblicato numerosi articoli scientifici e insegnato in diverse università.
